Sable Island and the Gully Marine Protected Area (Booked. Waiting list so please inquire)
June 9 - 17, 2012: 9 days | View Brochure
Exiting tour leaving Halifax the morning of June 9, visiting Sable Island and then steaming a further
40k further towards the continental shelf and the Gully MPA where we shall be for a couple of days.
This is the home of the endangered Bottlenose Whales of which there are about 160 individuals. They are
very friendly and come to the boat, swim on their backs, look up at us. This will be a remarkable experience
and we may also see Humpback, Sowerbys, and Pilot Whales. We plan to land on Sable Island and explore the
island under the guidance of either or both, Zoe Lukas and Prof Ian MacLaren. In June of 2012 it will
hopefully be under the auspices of Parks Canada. Here we will see many horses, seals, birds and whales.
We will head northeast towards Saint Pierre at the end of the tour, chumming on the way and will slow to
see puffins as we get closer to the French Territory. We have our flight from Saint Pierre included in
the cost and it leaves for Halifax on June 18th. Please phone or email for a brochure and information.

This tour will start in the Colombian Caribbean coast city of Cartegena. We will spend two nights there and then
fly to the southern corner of Colombia near the border of Peru and Brazil. We will visit the Conservation Group
Omacha and their efforts in this jungle paradise. We will travel into the jungle on river boats, visit famous
Sara Bennett who has studied primates for decades, see the pink dolphin, birds, fish, enormous vegetation and
flowers, learn about how Omacha works with local communities to further conservation in the area. We will have
along the biologist Catalina Gomez, a member of Omacha as well as a PhD student at Dalhousie University in Halifax.
We will also have along the well known British author and biologist Nicola Davies, and she will entertain you with stories of wildlife.

Date not set, 2013: 3 weeks
This tour is in production. We will visit the Dolphin Project on the coast, travel inland to learn about the
cultural behaviour of elephants and will meet the local tribal people who are particularly photogenic. Aside
from this, there is ongoing research on elephants. lions, and a lovely lizard that runs around on three legs
to keep its feet cool!
Tour to Britain: Slow Food in Dorset
Autumn 2013: 2 - 3 weeks
This is a tour we are still working on. We will visit various local food productions: cheese making, wine making, mushroom collecting,
foraging experts and many, many others. We will have a local cook produce meals every night and will have a day or two in which we will
have cooking lessons using local ingredients. We will be accompanied by a professional chef who will share her considerable experience.
The tour is being designed to limit the time we spend in a vehicle and so it will be limited to the beautiful lush countryside of Dorset.
This is an utterly unique trip in which you will not be dropped off for "free time," unless of course you request it!
